Pastor Brian continues his Timeless Questions series with “So could you not watch with me one hour?” In Gospel of Matthew 26:36–46, Jesus Christ goes to the Garden of Gethsemane to pray before his arrest, bringing his disciples and asking them to stay awake and keep watch with him. Overcome with sorrow, he prays to God while his disciples repeatedly fall asleep. When he finds them sleeping, he says to Peter, “Could you not watch with me one hour?” highlighting both his distress and their human weakness. The passage emphasizes the struggle between spiritual devotion and physical limitation, and it ends with Jesus accepting what is about to happen and preparing to face his arrest.
